<p>The second option isn't too viable either as using aliases isn't likely to work as users would expect, and also wouldn't scale well.</p>
<p>The current boxes are geared for flexibility, allowing regex, and speed. <p>1. Two fields for interface, one with nice regex, second with drop down? If one is chosen, the other one becomes greyed out.</p>
<p>2. Just gave that alias field as an example, not meant really like aliases. More like what you get from filling out from/to in any online map app that calculates routes. For example, writing "Col" could bring in "Colorado" as an option among many.<br />Here, writing "dmz" could bring in "VLAN820-DMZ3", "VLAN955-DMZ7" etc. for selection.</p>
<p>3. Disagree with the last part. From having worked with other solutions as well, advanced filtering shouldn't mean more pain to use the GUI.</p>
