Description

After running smoothly for several months, Outlook 2010 with Microsoft-hosted Exchange / Office365 started experiencing random connection difficulties about a week ago.

After investigating, I believe I've found the correct fix... "forward_max_tries" in the squid.conf file needs to be increased to "25" from it's default of "10".

Squid v3.4 defaults to 10, Squid v3.5 increases it to 25 by default.

Making this change enables Outlook / hosted-Exchange/Office365 to run smoothly.

Can this option be added to the configuration page for Squid3 (manual changes to squid.conf tend to get lost), or Squid itself updated to v3.5+?

It's already accidentally updated to 3.5.x in pfSense 2.3. You can add whatever you want via Services - Squid Proxy Server - General - Advanced features, no need to mess with squid.conf.
