Sounds like a problem that used to happen on older em chips, if you run "
ifconfig em0 down; ifconfig em0 up
" for each affected interface, it might recover.

That was fixed in FreeBSD some time ago, but it's probably crept back in, or perhaps it only affects i386 now. It does not seem to affect other cards, though, so you may be out of luck if it's hardware specific.

It may be tough to do, but if the problem can be reproduced on a plain FreeBSD 10.3 installation using the same hardware, then reporting the issue to FreeBSD could potentially lead to a resolution, but the problem is generally at a level over which we have no control.

I don't believe any of us have any working net6501 units on hand any longer to test with (I had one but it no longer POSTs).
pfSense - Bug #6823: No connectivity after changing link state to UPhttps://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/6823?journal_id=289832016-09-28T14:23:57ZC Schaodis852654@gmail.com

Thanks Jim! I'll report to FreeBSD. It's something that started happening a few months ago so I think one of the latest updates introduced the bug.
pfSense - Bug #6823: No connectivity after changing link state to UPhttps://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/6823?journal_id=289872016-09-28T18:56:40ZC Schaodis852654@gmail.com

They had the same issue in OPNsense, so they created a FreeBSD port of the stock Intel driver version 7.6.2, which works fine.
Let's hope they get it into the tree soon.

Yes, that would be great! Any progress yet?
pfSense - Bug #6823: No connectivity after changing link state to UPhttps://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/6823?journal_id=605852022-04-21T12:39:21ZRenato Botelhorenato@netgate.com
