Description
Emacs is not installed by default, and is not available as a package for installation. For emacs users, pfSense is effectively missing a text editor.
Please provide emacs or emacs-nox package.
A recipe to build emacs from sources can be found at https://superuser.com/a/1028960/173513.
Updated by Jim Pingle about 5 years ago
- Project changed from pfSense to pfSense Packages
- Category set to New Package Request
- Status changed from New to Rejected
The base install includes vi and ee, and you can edit remotely via scp.
It's meant to be a firewall not a general purpose OS in which a heavyweight editor like Emacs makes sense. Emacs and dependencies take up nearly 1GB of disk space and would add hours of build time. Even without X dependencies it's 200MB for an editor. I don't see it ever happening.
