Bug #10229
closedIPv6 Options > IPv6 DNS entry - setting is ignored
0%
Description
In the 2.4.5.r.20200202.1951 build, the setting for "Do not generate local IPv6 DNS entries for LAN interfaces" in System > Advanced > Networking > IPv6 Options appears to no longer function. The current behavior is that /var/etc/radvd.conf is generated with the LAN IPv6 address as RDNSS for each given interface.
I enable this setting since I hand out my IPv6 DNS servers via DHCPv6 and do not use pfSense as my DNS server. Since upgrading to this stated build, all my clients are now picking up the RDNSS advertisement from RADVD in addition to my DHCPv6 DNS servers.
I attempted to toggle this setting off, then save, then back on, and saved again. The generated radvd.conf is the same regardless of the setting.

That option sets ipv6dontcreatelocaldns
which only affects creation of local hostnames for things like /etc/hosts -- It does not affect anything in IPv6 RA.
I think you might have it confused with the option added to 2.5.0 in #9302 which would be under the RA tab for an interface in the DHCPv6/RA settings. That option is only in 2.5.0 and won't be in 2.4.5.

Indeed, I was mistaken as to the purpose of that setting. I apologize. I believe I had previously commented out the RDNSS lines in /etc/inc/services.inc to avoid RADVD's advertisement of the local IPv6 interface addresses. After remembering this, it is obvious why my edits were replaced when upgrading to 2.4.5rc. I am looking forward to the option you referred to in #9302 when 2.5.0 is complete. Thanks!
