Description

Using the instructions here (https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/development/requesting-new-pfsense-features.html), I would like to request a feature: MAC-based VLAN's. I did a quick search for this feature on redmine and didn't find anything. Here's some documentation on MAC-based VLAN's: https://gtacknowledge.extremenetworks.com/articles/Q_A/What-is-MAC-based-VLANs-and-port-based-VLANs

That would be done on your switch (L2), not a firewall.

But the only way to manage multiple VLANs in pfSense is port-based, which means I need a new NIC for every VLAN I want to add. Yes, I could set up MAC-based VLAN's on my switch but, if I have more VLAN's than pfSense has NIC's, how would my firewall manage them?

You setup trunking between pfSense and your switch. All VLANs are carried on a single port.

This site is not for support or diagnostic discussion, however.

For assistance in solving problems, please post on the Netgate Forum or the pfSense Subreddit .
