Description

We have a unusual network scenario that uses failover. It used to work on pfSense 1.2.3, but now on 2.0 it isn't working anymore.

The customer has 3 networks (A, B and C). Network A needs to communicate with B and C (B doesn't need to communicate with C and vice-versa) but both need to communicate with A.

They have 2 ways to make this communication, an MPLS and a 802.11g radio.

When we are using MPLS to communicate, from network A, we use the same gateway (local MPLS router) to go to networks B and C.

On version 1.2.3, we configured 2 Load Balances, one for A to B, and other for A to C, both LBs using the same gateway, but, with different monitor ips, so, it worked perfectly, when monitor ip for network B is down, the alternative route is activated just to network B, the way to network C stay the same (MPLS).

On version 2.0, the monitor ip is configured on gateway configuration, so, we just have one monitor ip to both networks, when this monior ip is down, it redirects traffic from A to B AND C to alternative route.

We discussed it here, and we think if you can configure the monitor ip on Gateway Group instead of Gateway it'll work the same way it did on version 1.2.3.

With the way the gateway system is designed this is not possible.

You can add more gateways/monitor IPs, put those in a seperate group you want to monitor.
