Description

The conventional interface configuration of a WAN and LAN was used in early development of pfSense software. These interfaces were assigned the identities wan and lan respectively. Over time the software has evolved to handle more flexible interface configurations, including the use of opt identities such as opt1. However, there are still cases where this legacy convention remains.

This redmine task serves as a way to track the changes needed to remove the reliance of the legacy convention. Changes to relevant features from this task include the following:
  • Allow the use of wan as a LAN interface.
  • Allow the use of lan as a WAN interface.
  • Allow the first WAN-type interface to be assigned an opt identity.
  • Allow the first LAN-type interface to be assigned an opt identity.
