Description

ISO used: pfSense-LiveCD-2.1-DEVELOPMENT-i386-20120707-2000.iso

I am trying to specify an exact beginning and end for the in order to align it for use on a SSD. The installer will not allow me to specify an exact partition size when the partition almost fills the disk.

The options present in the installer are:
- Expand partition to fill the disk
- Return to partition configuration screen

The option that is missing is: "Continue with current partition size".

Example in the attached files. I have tried other similar offsets for the partition end, all divisible by 63 sectors, but none worked.

I could also see that "problem".
Installing pfsense with the live-cd (pfSense-LiveCD-2.1-RC1-amd64-20130801-1938) creates a partition starting on sector 63, which significantly reduces performance on disks with 4k sector size (all SSDs and newer hard disks).
It would be better to start on sector 2048 ("1M alignment") as default value to circumvent that issue.
