with http://snapshots.pfsense.org/FreeBSD_RELENG_8_1/i386/pfSense_HEAD/.updaters/
and http://snapshots.pfsense.org/FreeBSD_RELENG_8_0/i386/pfSense_HEAD/.updaters/

new version is always displayed.
I think is time problem: now
- My version: built on Wed Mar 10 06:44:46 EST 2010
- In System: Firmware: Auto Update : New version: Wed Mar 10 09:44:00 EST 2010

That's just a function of how it works, it won't work with snapshots. It should be addressed at some point but it's not a priority.

It should work ok.
You can use snapshots too if you allow it from Updater Settings.

The http://snapshots.pfsense.org/FreeBSD_RELENG_8_1/i386/pfSense_HEAD/.updaters/version file is generated from last build of the day, I've tested with 512Mb and 1Gb images ( download the last build of 512Mb and 1Gb ), but the last image generated is always the 4Gb, the build time is always wrong for other images! And new update is always available! An hack: you can check only the date?!?

this is fine now. It does not work with nanobsd nor has it ever. Will open new ticket for that specific issue
