This might seem like a feature, but it is a bug, .. maybe intentional but still a bug, a hostname should be allowed to contain dots, ..
Rather then checking for dots it's, better to check if the hostname matches the domain name.

that is by design because of how it's used for registration of static mappings in the DNS Resolver/Forwarder. Allowing FQDN entry would break that for the purposes of the vast majority, and allowing it doesn't help anything. Those who want to see a FQDN there can use the description field. It's best to not allow configuration that would break a significant number of use cases for no real benefit.
