Description

Since upgrading from pfSense 2.1.5 all pfSense 2.2 versions have limited my clients VPN download speed to around 40 Mbps. This happens on both x32 and x64 versions of pfSense 2.2, I have re-installed pfSense 2.1.5 and the VPN download speeds returns to the max of over 100 Mbps.

Both Hardware Setups:
Setup 1:
Dell OptiPlex GX270
Pentium 4
1 GB of Ram
32 bit version of pfSense 2.1.5 & 2.2

Setup 1
> 90 Mbps with pfSense 2.1.5 (Only 90 because the CPU is so old and gets maxed)
> 40 Mpbs with PfSense 2.2 +

Setup 2
KVM Virtual Machine
Intel i7-3770s 3.10GHz (1 Core)
1 GB of Ram
64 Bit version of pfSense 2.1.5 -> 2.2

Setup 2
> 110 Mbps with pfSense 2.1.5
> 40 Mpbs with PfSense 2.2 +

Also, If I disable the VPN and do a speed test through the ISP, it maxes out at 110 Mbps on pfSense 2.2 so it is looking like something with the openVPN client.

  • Status changed from New to Not a Bug
  • Affected Version deleted (2.2)

there aren't any general performance regressions in OpenVPN.
