Squid garbage collection is a blocking thread and stops all network traffic when using ram cache.

Upstream bug tracker for Squid is at http://bugs.squid-cache.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=Squid - the pfSense package does nothing different from upstream regarding garbage collection.
