Currently I am forced to use OPNsense behind pfSense for webfiltering only.

It has to be something in your settings causing this. I can't reproduce it here. I have a working MITM transparent setup and I even did a video demo of it during the monthly Hangout a few months ago. Please post to the forum and include all of your settings from every page in squid and squidGuard, paying particular attention to your squidGuard redirect settings for each area.
