Bug #9699
closedWAN Interfaces Page - PPPoE breaks randomly when changes are made
0%
Description
After the initial setup of a PPPoE connection on WAN interfaces change changing settings on this page will randomly break the connection and it will refuse to connect.
I have tried changing settings back to before the change and I have also tried changing the connection type to something else and then setting up PPPoE again and still it will not connect.
I have verified it's not equipment related by shutting down the server running PFSense completely off and unplugged to reset the network card as well as powering down the modem.
The only way to get it to re-connect is to restore from a known good back-up XML file.
If I go back into the area and change settings again that I tried before it broke, it may or may not work fine.
This issue has persisted since 2.3 as I have set up a few boxes on DSL connections and notice it repeat.

Not enough information here for a valid bug report. I have several systems with PPPoE interfaces and none of them break in this way when changing settings. It may be something specific to your environment, such as a web browser form auto-fill extension which is placing incorrect information in the page.
This site is not for support or diagnostic discussion.
For assistance in solving problems, please post on the Netgate Forum or the pfSense Subreddit .

I have experienced this on multiple machines with PPPOE at random times, pretty sure it's not me. Like I said it happens at Random. With other types of connections it doesn't happen.
Trying to do the right thing and let you know about it but it appears you are quick to dismiss so I guess I'm done here.
I've given you as much information as I can.

That isn't enough. You need to start a forum thread to discuss the problem and provide a lot more detail, things like configuration diffs, logs, etc. As stated, we can't repeat it and there isn't enough to go on to even speculate as to why it's happening to you, beyond it being a local issue like a browser add-on.
