Description
Hi all,
Coming across an issue where I have different servers on different DC's, switching provided by external company.
It happens that, as they state:
Real Multicast isn't possible inside the vSwitch. All packets will be handled like Broadcast Traffic.
You can try to use use gratuitous ARP on both ends end to ensure that the MACs are correct updated. It takes a short time the switches to learn the MACs entries.
For this we suggest to you that to use GARP on both ends end to ensure that the MACs are correct updated.
I believe it would be quite interesting to have an option (or plugin or sort) to enable VIP ARPING when the state changes from BACKUP to MASTER, triggered by the event, as a solution to overcome this difficulty.
I also believe it would also help people who are in similar conditions is a viable solution.
As reference I had made this post on the official pfSense forums: https://forum.netgate.com/topic/156499/carp-issues-due-to-layer-2-switching
Thank you.

CARP already sends a gratuitous ARP when it assumes control. If your environment needs additional nudging, that isn't likely something that will be accommodated in the base system since it would be adding technical debt for something only you need, and rarely (if ever) anyone else since it's the environment that is broken here, not pfSense.
