Feedback:

I moved my bare metal pfsense box to a virtual machine on proxmox using your guide linked here. Overall it worked, however I suffered from poor https performance with downloads from my nextcloud instance being hosted behind HAProxy, capping at 30MBps on local network. Your guide above suggests creating a KVM64 CPU in proxmox with no advanced flags but to get best performance you need to enable the AES CPU flag which passes AES-NI to the pfsense machine inside. It immediately improved my speeds up to full gigabit speeds.

I posted on the forum here https://forum.netgate.com/topic/160685/finally-solved-slow-https-performance-when-using-pfsense-on-proxmox-perhaps-should-update-guide and was suggested to contact you here.

A minor amendment to the guide may help others in future who want to host their services behind HAProxy.

Let me know if I can be of any more help. Thanks

  • Status changed from New to Not a Bug
  • Assignee deleted (Jim Pingle)

This was just recently changed in the last week or so. That the guide now advises to use Host as the CPU type, not KVM64. That should match the CPU in the host including its flags.

Oh! There are two pages available, is this one managed by netgate? https://pfsense-docs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/virtualization/virtualizing-pfsense-with-proxmox.html

I apologise if that's not your site. I see the updated guide here https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/recipes/virtualize-proxmox.html which is correct as you say.

That is not our site. The only official source of documentation is docs.netgate.com
