GUI logins stop appearing in system log after a while

Description
We've so far seen two customers run into this and only one TAC member has been able to reproduce it, though it's not reliably reproducible in any way we can determine. The issue is simply that after a certain amount of time, logging in to the web GUI no longer produces a log entry noting of the successful login (unknown if failed login attempts still do or do not appear as well). Reportedly affects CE 2.6 and Plus 22.05 but not 23.01.
That's all we have to go on right now, so I'm opening this for others to add to should they encounter it.

I seem to recall hitting this on a rare occasion in the past but it wasn't related to logins but logging from anything in PHP. As in the description I could never reproduce it reliably.
However, if we can't reproduce it at all on 23.01/2.7.0 or later snapshots then there isn't anything actionable here since it's likely been fixed in the OS and/or PHP.
We can leave this open for now, but we need more information or a way to trigger it somehow.
