Description

Currently, PFSense has 3 different locations you need to check for updates and they don't generate any kinds of alerts. I'd like to propose some single pane consolidation and widget inclusion.
Is there a new release? Check the main dashboard. What about a package update? Go to the packages page and scroll for ones showing an available update. What about System Patches that exist for hotfixes between point releases?

Why is this managed on 3 independent pages and why are they not all configurable as alert generation events? Why is the "system patches" an optional package and not integral already? That's not even part of the documentation.
Why when packages are available do they have to be installed individually? All of this seems to add many clicks to maintenance.

I'd like to propose, at minimum, the dashboard widgets are updated to show ALL available patches, updates, and package updates. This would provide single-click access to applicable updates. Bonus points if we could "apply all updates" on these pages and sequentially apply all available updates to make maintenance easier.

I'm sure others might chime in and wish for some ties to the notification system for some/all of these as well. It's too easy to miss important updates as things stand today. Can we improve on it?

There is a packages widget for package updates, and with that you can see everything on the dashboard already.

System Patches is itself a package and not in base so it can't be consolidated like that, but if you use the packages widget you'll see that the patches package has an update to run.
Though the recommended patches are updated periodically, not everyone needs/wants to install all of the patches so there is no meaningful way for it to notify that there is something new.

What packages widget? is this something available outside of 2.6?

I do not see a dashboard widget for neither system patches nor package updates. Unless I'm missing something, there is not a single pane way for me to actually quickly and easily see updates are available.

This issue was inspired by what seemed like multiple requests with similar challenges here on the pfsense subreddit.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PFSENSE/comments/12cjo3f/pfsense_ce_abandoned/

The request was tackling some very real problems challenging multiple people in the discussion.

Am I missing something? Is there a way for me to see available updates and apply them without going to 3 pages?

Also, while I understand not everyone needs/wants something... I think that's dismissing that many do. I'm not suggesting update/apply all displaces the ability to pick and choose, I'm saying it would make things easier for those of us who would like to do so
