Description
With the mpd5 PPPOE implementation it is possible (although perhaps not intentional/supported) to create a CARP VIP on the PPPOE parent interface, and then assign the CARP VIP rather than the interface itself as the parent for the PPPOE session.
This had the effect of allowing failover to a backup firewall, should the primary one fail.
After switching to if_pppoe selecting the CARP VIP prevents the interface from starting correctly, and it is necessary to select the interface itself. This prevents automatic failover.
Updated by Jim Pingle 4 days ago
- Tracker changed from Bug to Feature
- Subject changed from if_pppoe no longer supports CARP VIP to CARP VIP support for ``if_pppoe``
- Category changed from High Availability to PPP Interfaces
- Priority changed from Normal to Very Low
- Affected Version deleted (
2.8.0)
HA and CARP are only supported on static interfaces, not dynamic. That only ever worked by coincidence and luck.
This can stay open for now unless we determine it isn't feasible, but it's a feature request, not a bug.
