Description

I'm trying to put together a Netgate ALIX kit for which I also picked up this wireless card that specifically states pfsense compatibility. I have found that the kernel panic on the first reboot immediately after configuration of the card.

I've attached a full console log of a boot attempt from when I get this panic. I've managed to duplicate this three times. By removing the card, I can get the system to boot, but the config seems messed up.

How to Duplicate
  1. Do a factory reset
  2. In setup wizard use all default settings except the password
  3. In webUI, assign Opt1 to ath0.
  4. In Opt1 config area, "Enable Interface", set the SSID and chose "Ad-hoc (IBSS)" as the mode.
  5. "Save" and then "Apply Changes"

Immediately, a panic should show up in the terminal:

Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode
cpuid = 0; apic id = 00
fault virtual address   = 0xffff
fault code = supervisor read, page not present
instruction pointer     = 0x20:0xc0a0fd80
stack pointer           = 0x28:0xe2e24bac
frame pointer           = 0x28:0xe2e24bb8
code segment            = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b
                        = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1
processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0
current process         = 0 (ath0 taskq)
trap number             = 12
panic: page fault
cpuid = 0
Uptime: 2m34s
Cannot dump. Device not defined or unavailable.
Automatic reboot in 15 seconds - press a key on the console to abort

This isn't a show stopper for me, but seems like something that should be on record in case someone else runs into the same problem. Hopefully this will save someone else some time.
