Feature #2925
closed"Monit" Monit for customized monitoring and alerting
0%
Description
I would really like to see Monit supported as an official package integrated into the WebGUI. It is fully compliant, open source and would integrate very nicely.
- No plugins/dependencies
- Lightweight and Flexible - Monitor system resources or network traffic
- GNU/AGPL IE compatibile to integrate into PFSense
- Can report to Syslog or use it's own logging
- Can restart failed services and/or check service dependencies before taking actions
- And last but most certainly not least, It will add value in an area where PFSense is truly lacking; customized monitoring and reporting.
It could also take the place of several other existing packages providing a cleaner, more centralized management.

Unfortunately, the absence of a Monit GUI is one of the reasons why i'm not using pfSense anymore.
Not to create a flamewar, don't get me wrong, but restarting bogus ipsec tunels when you have to connect with a proprietary solution that does not fully implements DPD, or a proprietary box that expires old IPSec keys way to fast to way for rekey is a "must have" these days, and using Monit i could achieve very little downtime on remote offices using other firewall solution - https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=13543.msg62584#msg62584
The other one is the legacy of the concept of "ONE LAN Inteface" that all firewall solutions seems to have, not allowing all interfaces to benefit from a 0.0.0.0/0 route on IPSec(and also, the absence of a workaround for this concept as explained here: https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/9605)
