Description

I upgraded my home box from 2.1.5 straight to 2.2.1 and it was still "reinstalling packages" an hour later.

So I went webgui -> Diagnostics -> Backup/restore -> and clicked "Break package lock"

Then I discovered that ipsec just would not work, many cryptic errors in the ipsec log.
I also couldn't SSH to the firewall via main lan or from a vlan, via IPv4 or IPv6. After connecting a console I could ssh out to other LAN PCs.

The only fix was to reboot the box and both ipsec and SSH inward worked straight away.

This Todo request is to provide more information on what packages are being reinstalled, and whether they're failing or not.
These are the packages I had installed at the time:
  • Apcupsd Was out of date
  • arping Was out of date
  • bandwidthd Was out of date
  • iperf Can't remember
  • LADVD Can't remember
  • mtr-nox11 Was up-to-date
  • nmap Was up-to-date

Idea - as part of
webgui -> Diagnostics -> Backup/restore -> "Break package lock"

The pfsense firewall should then do a maintenance reboot to ensure that whatever can come up does come up and the operator can go and sort out whatever packages were wrong.

This kind of issue will not happen anymore on 2.3 using pkg(8)
