Bug #4916
closedRequesting 8GB NanoBSD image
0%
Description
Looks like around where I live the 4GB CF cards start to disappear from the market. Today all I can find are Kingston's low end category in 4GB size.
There's plenty of 8GB and above from various manufacturers, but all 4GBs sold out and talking to wholesale suppliers they are not interested in shipping 4GB CFs anymore. Shops sell out what they have in stock. I just ordered a small batch for me to sit on the shelf.
I am aware that it is possible to dd the 4GB image onto bigger flash media as well, but isn't that a waste of space? Especially considering the new size increment which appeared on 2.2.4 (not too much, but it's there).
So my idea is to just add an extra output to the build server to spit out a 8GB image for the future NanoBSD builds along with the existing sizes.

it's fine (and better in ways) to use a larger card than the image size. this has been discussed at length in other tickets, forum, etc.

As I said I am aware of that, but having a 8GB image (which means approx 4GB per slice) would be a benefit for package users on NanoBSD.
Please consider adding a 8GB output to the build script.
