Bug #5378
closedIntel x710 10GbE NIC doesn't work (no carrier)

Description
I have a problem with the Intel x710 10GbE NIC. No connection is possible and ifconfig shows status "no carrier".
There seems to be a problem with flow control, so I disabled it like mentioned here: https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Tuning_and_Troubleshooting_Network_Cards#Flow_Control, but it has no effect.
I have the same NIC and same Cable in a FreeNAS-machine and it works. Additionally i tested a Archlinux Live-CD on the pfSense-machine and it works too.

what version? Does same happen on a 2.3 snapshot?

I tested it on 2.2.4 stable, 2.2.5 development, and 2.3 snapshot. Always the same problem.

which FreeNAS version did it work on? We likely have newer Intel drivers than FreeNAS in 2.2.4 and newer.

I'm seeing the exact same problem using 2.2.4 and 2.2.5
Tested with ubuntu livecd 15.10 and it works fine.

I've testing FreeBSD 10.2 with the same behavior. I do not have another SFP to try.

doesn't seem to like other SFP's but that doesn't explain why other distro's seems to work fine.

Can you provide details of what you are observing? If there an error message displayed when you try to bring the interface up?

status: no carrier persists in ifconfig after configuring and bringing up the interface.
I've purchased a supported SFP listed by intel to see if this improves anything. But, it does seems unique to FreeBSD.
No errors displayed

I've tried a supported SFP cable, it produced the same results. We are using a powerconnect 5548 series switch.

can anyone try this on 2.3.1 and report back? It has a newer driver than anyone here has reported on.

Likely this is fine on 2.3.x with the latest driver. If not, should be reported upstream to FreeBSD.
