Upgrade to new package versions should be controlled by GUI

Description
Currently, as far as I can tell, pfSense checks for upgrades to packages at boot time, and automatically installs any updates.
I would suggest to change this to something like the update for pfSense itself:
On the GUI dashboard, just as showing new pfSense versions, pfSense should show new package versions, and only install them at administrators request.

Packages are not automatically upgraded at all. They may be installed at boot if the config is present but the files are missing, as with a restored configuration, but they aren't automatically upgraded.

Well, I might be mistaken here, but my experience is this:
- I have installed TinyDNS; and it worked like a charm.
- After reboot, it did not work at all.

That is a problem specific to that one package, not a general problem with the system as a whole.

Fair enough, sorry for the noise ))-:
However, when are packages then updated?
I.e. if there is a security update to any package, how would I - as administrator - know about it ?
[ Again: sorry of this is just noise because I do not know pfSense too well, but as an administrator and security aficionado, this is an issue close to my heart ]

Packages are updated from System > Packages on the installed packages tab. It shows there if a new version is available. Click the 'pkg' button to update or reinstall.
Any more questions should be directed at the forum, since this is a bug tracking system and not a support system.

You can open a new ticket that is specific to TinyDNS and its reinstallation problems but please do not update this ticket again.
