Description

Hello!

I'd like to report a problem with a brand new pfSense SG-4860 with factory installed firmware:

2.3.2-RELEASE-p1 (amd64)
built on Fri Sep 30 14:36:56 CDT 2016
FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p9

The USB serial console is working so that it displays the system bootup messages, welcome message and the menu for actions. It finally displays the "Enter an option:" prompt at the end. The console output would thus appear to be as expected, but the console does not seem to react to any input. This is true for the whole of the bootup process, including the above mentioned prompt. I've tested the console on Windows and Linux PCs with no change in behaviour.

I don't have another Firewall to compare to, so I'm guessing that I've got one of:
1) a defective firewall
2) firmware problem
3) configuration problem (the above results are with factory default settings)
4) a defective USB cable

Any comments? Am I missing something here. Should input on the serial console be working at all?

Jani,

This is a bug reporter for pfSense in general and it doesn't sound like you have a bug but perhaps an issue connecting to that hardware or a client-side issue like flow control. Contact our support team using and someone can help you out. If you have registered your device you can also login at https://portal.pfsense.org/ and start a chat with a support representative.

Thanks,
Jim
