Seems like pfSense would make a great host platform for VMs using bhyve.

Hello. This is something more and more are after.
Separate Pfsense core installation from other addons/install package in the same hardware.

This can open up a more flexebility for home users that want do more with the hardware.

please take a lift up this feather.

I agree. pfsense could be run in a VM alongside other VMs, using another hypervisor, but I prefer to run it on bare metal for better I/O performance. Then instead of managing more hardware, some useful services could run on the same router in VMs like pihole on debian, and ubiquiti unifi controller for wifi management.

Of course, bhyve on pfsense can be manually setup and used, but without official support there would be difficulties upgrading and maintaining it.
