Hello,

I came to this tracker to look for similar reports to what I am experiencing and this is very similar.

I was previously running CE edition 2.3.4 for a couple of months in a VMware ESXi VM for a very small home system (few computers, wireless devices) and it was absolutely fine running the normal services such as DNS resolver, and a package darkstat.

Since upgrading on the 14th Oct I've experienced a problem with:

- DNS resolver stops responding to requests
- Admin GUI on browser is unresponsive
- Console directly to VM accepts username and password and then hangs
- If I change DNS servers on my PC I can browse the internet fine so the whole machine isn't wedged, just looks like some services are locked up

I too tried to throw resources at the problem to see whether it helped, I doubled the RAM allocation from 2GB to 4GB and this has not helped.

It locks up quite consistently every 24/36 hours if there's any debug or troubleshooting I can enable that would help generate dumps that would be helpful please let me know.

Thanks for any advice you may be able to offer.

Kim

Sorry for the update spam, before I rebooted it this time I sent an NMI from ESXi and it generated a textdump in /var/crash - not sure if this will be any use but I've collected it just incase.

Thanks.

Hey OP, I was reading into this further and found Bug #6882 https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/6882 you might find interesting if you look in top do you see bsnmpd using lots of CPU?

I did, and since removing the CD/DVD drive from my VM I've seen the usage drop down on reboot.

Might be unrelated to this issue but I'm going to sit tight for 24hrs and see if it hangs again.

  • Status changed from New to Duplicate

If you upgrade to 2.4.1 snapshot and keep seeing bsnmpd consuming high CPU please add a comment in #6882 so it can be revisited. I'm closing this as duplicate

Hello everyone, my problem may have been resolved.
I had a snapshot before installing the vmware tools package. After returning to this, my issue is solved with memory
