Description

I'd like to keep pfsense email notifications enabled, unfortunately we have a dynamic ip that changes every day and we use dyndns. That means I get a notification every day when the ip changes and pfsense updates dyndns. Please let me disable this notification for ip changes.

  • Subject changed from Pfsense sends a useless update notification every day with dynamic IPs and Dyndns if email notifications are enabled. to Make Dynamic DNS update notification e-mail optional
  • Priority changed from Normal to Very Low

Removed "useless" from the subject and reworded.

You may not want it, that does not make it useless. There are many users who want that update, especially if the address changes. To them, it is useful.

You could also filter this easily on your mail client if you do not want to see it.

I check my mails from many devices, and I can't block it on server side. I imagine its the same for many home users.

I don't think thats true for the majority of users, making this feature optional would be the best solution

Blocking on the server side is possible for many (e.g. sieve on self-hosted servers, gmail filtering, etc). Most mail clients, even mobile, have basic filtering as well.

And you are wrong about what the majority of users wants. We've had numerous requests over the years for a dyndns notification and rarely if ever has someone complained about it.

Hmm, okay interesting. I guess most providers in america don't have dynamic IP's. I didn't know Iam in the minority with this. You never stop learning I guess..
I would disable those notifications unfortunatly arpwatch notifications are tied to this setting..:(
Bad luck for me then

Many do, but they don't necessarily change every day. But usually if someone has dynamic DNS they want to know that it updated or changed so they can know the new address. DNS doesn't always work, but having the address handy in an e-mail can save troubleshooting time.

Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

If it's better this way for the majority, then yes I agree.

Maybe we can change this feature request to "Make arpwatch notification setting independent to general pfsense notifications"
