Feature #10467
openEmail alert functionality for system health
0%
Description
Email alerting is not well documented and not very inclusive.
I recently experienced an issue where services were crashing as a result of VAR running out of disk space.
Both of those seem like very alertable events: low disk space should trigger an e-mail as well as service termination/ not starting.
General system health and function alerts should be tied to the notification system
Ideally, these would be configurable. email configuration does not really allow for alert customization.

+ as well voting for configurable buildin SMTP notifications by types/monitors. This needed specially when pfSense monotired by Zabbix with own SMTP (or other notifications) so you can remove doubling of some alerts.

MORE IMPORTANT - ALERTING CRITICAL LEVEL EVENTS MORE RESPONSIBLE and WITH GUARANTEED WAY manner, that also make RESL-TIME ALERTING!
Using pfSense’s IDS/IPS both Snort/Suricata and Ntopng GROWING EACH 6-8month since v.2.5 coming out.
So, because size of Snort/Suricata,ntopng’s logs are the “point of pain” for much of all pfSense users AND pfSense already makes great notification system (Pushover, Slack, Telegram, emails,…)
PROPOSAL
——————
Notifications about disk space:
When free disk space are below [25%…..]
(You may entering amount of disk space in Gb or . For example “15”, “40Gb”)
When size of /var/log system and packages logs directory are more than [40Gb]
(You may entering dir size in “Gb” or “Mb”)
If pfSense admin are serious about their pfSense installation, BOTH LICAL LOGGING and LIGGING ON REMOTE SERVER ARE MUST HAVE!
