Image data of dashboard image widget does not get backed up

Backup / Restore
Description
The dashboard has a rather useful image widget, which by using distinctive images, drastically lowers the chance of making configuration changes to the wrong instance.
It turns out, configuration backups do not include the image uploaded for display in that widget. After a system re-installation and restore of a prior configuration, the image widget has no contents.
The image should be backed up as part of the configuration backup.
Ronald,
The only thing that is backed up when pfSense is backed up is the config file. I'm not sure what "image" you're referring to, but unless it's RRD data this is intended and by design. There is no way to store an image file in an XML file for backup purposes.
Please clarify your issue.
I’m not sure how I’m supposed to clarify.
It’s pretty easy what I’m talking about: go to the dashboard, add an image widget (yes that exists!), and then configure that widget by uploading an image. That image is not backed up, but it should, because it’s part of a system’s configuration, just like the rest of the widgets.
The image allows a host to show a random host specific picture, such that it’s easy to keep hosts apart if one e.g. has a dozen dashboard windows open for a dozen branch offices’ gateways.
The Paris office may show the Eiffel Tower, the London office Big Ben, etc.
If one backs up a system’s configuration, that image must be part of it; it’s not some random file, it’s configuration data.
Oh, and ANYTHING can be stored in an XML file, that’s what base64 encoded blobs are for.
Oops, sorry, there’s something to clarify: the widget is called “Picture” not “Image”
- Is duplicate of Bug #12774: Picture widget image is not saved in backup added
- Status changed from New to Duplicate
