Description

If you set the remote auth server at System=>User Manager=>Settings=>Authentication Server and this server the system will be stuck on boot on step

Synchronizing user setting...

In my case, the client has the LDAP server which is accessible via WAN. The issue persists on 23.01 and 23.05, on 22.05 it works well.

I can suspect that it failed because the internet connection is not established prior to it starts attempting to connect remote auth server.

I couldn't replicate this behavior on:

2.7.0-RELEASE (amd64)
built on Wed Jun 28 03:53:34 UTC 2023
FreeBSD 14.0-CURRENT

There may be some other aspect of the poster's setup that is a factor here, like it being remote, or maybe it's used for shell/SSH logins, etc. While there have been some startup changes in recent versions, it doesn't seem like this is likely to have been impacted by them.

Please start a forum thread and include as much detail as possible about the configuration/environment (e.g. packages installed, WAN type, LDAP auth settings that aren't private, etc) so that others can attempt to reproduce the problem and help isolate the cause.

If we can isolate an actionable bug then this can be reopened with more detail.
