Bug #14543
closedminor issue installing 2.7 with ZFS, mouse required!
0%
Description
This is a rare corner case (IMHO) but perhaps a "bug" worth fixing.
I was going to install a fresh 2.7 with ZFS. Everything went well until I got to the ZFS Configuration screen. Here I could not select the single VirtIO Block Device that was presented; neither the tab key nor the arrow keys would move up to the single entry to be selected. I had to resort to finding and connecting a mouse to the pfSense to successfully select the device.

The installer has been tested on multiple platforms, including Proxmox VE, Microsoft Hyper-V, and VMware ESXi. If the issue was experienced in any of those, it's likely to be an issue outside of pfSense software. It sounds as if the keyboard was not detected.
This site is not for support or diagnostic discussion. For assistance in solving problems, please post on the Netgate Forum . See Reporting Issues with pfSense Software for more information.

The keyboard was detected and used throughout the installation which went well except for the one page I mentioned, the ZFS Configuration page which required a mouse.
The installation was not done in a virtualized environment but on regular hardware. I was downgrading from 23.05.1 to 2.7 to enable ZFS and then back up to 23.05.1 again. There's nothing wrong with the hardware used.
This was not a support request, it is a bug report. I would not waste time discussing issues on this platform.

If there is only one entry it's already there, the cursor is already in the right place.
Pressing the space bar would have selected the entry, no need for a mouse.
This is already mentioned in the docs: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/install/install-zfs.html#select-disks
