Description

I wanted to create this incident ticket to advise the pfsense development team that when I had pfsense version 2.6, I was able to use the NUT package with my Tripplite Smart1500LCD UPS using the UPS-HID driver without any issues. I didn't have to use any advanced options other than to select the default driver I wanted to use and that is USB-HID

Then earlier this year when I upgraded to version 2.7 with the exact same hardware and tried to use the NUT driver using the USB-HID driver, it no longer recognized my Tripplite Smart1500LCD UPS. According to online sources and from what others have experienced with this issue, they mentioned that it's a firmware bug with pfsense and that the development team is working on addressing the issue. Can you advise on an ETA on when this issue will be resolved? I have also attached a screen capture of the messages I see in my event logs for the UPS.

Thanks,
Adam

Almost certainly the same as other similar recent reports. Some driver/OS change is causing this device to need root access, so you need to add a directive to your config to run it as root. Post on the forum for assistance.

I read online that updating the OS version from 2.7 to 2.7.2 should fix some security bugs and I have followed the instructions that I found online in trying to resolve the issue that I mentioned in my bug request:

https://forum.netgate.com/topic/102959/nut-package-2-8-0-and-below/1049?lang=en-GB

According to this online source below, people have indicated that is a known issue with nut in pfsense:

https://www.reddit.com/r/PFSENSE/comments/14tebia/nut_issues_on_270/

When I use the option in Extra Arguments, interruptonly, some of the details such as the currently load information on my UPS disappears which can be useful for me at times. Also, I still see the UPS alerts in the logs as I have attached to the ticket for your review.
Kindly reopen this ticket for your support team to review again as I am not the only one having this issue.

Thanks!
