I believe that is intentional. I'm not sure if it's viable to support them there. Either way that is a missing feature, not a bug.

This doesn't seem like a good idea to me because it's too prone for abuse/error. Given how URL aliases are generally used, the resulting configuration would likely 1) have an unauthenticated endpoint 2) managed by a third-party that 3) controls where all traffic is sent. I think the functionality available now is enough - that is, dynamic routing, custom scripts, or simply normal aliases.
