Can the links to redmine and the various other assets be made to open in a new tab i.e.

We've considered this in the past and ultimately decided not to go that route. If you force them to a new window you take away the choice from the user on how they want the links to behave. If you leave them as-is the user can choose what to do in their browser (e.g. middle click or ctrl-click for new tab, shift click for new window, etc.)
