Feedback:
In (24.08) you can't actually create an OPT interface, the physical interface assinged to WAN does not show up in the Available network ports: list. If you create an OPT on an empty physical interface and try and switch back, it gives an error. eg: Port igb0 was assigned to 2 interfaces: WAN (WAN) OPT1 (OPT1)

I can't replicate that on any version. I'm able to assign the parent interface separately without errors in every case. For example:
Tested: 24.03, 24.08.a.20240925.0600, 24.11.a.20241018.1552

Hi Steve -- Does vtnet0 show up under "Available network ports:"?
Please see my system:

In my example vmx0 is the parent NIC for the PPPoE connection and you can see I have also been able to assign vmx0 as an interface.
In your configuration there is no PPPoE interface created yet. You can't assign igb0 directly more than once and that is the expected behaviour.
