Currently it's not possible to check for whether a default package (WireGuard, System Patches, etc.) has been uninstalled by the user. This is necessary to allow new default packages to be auto-installed on upgrades without also installing every default package. For this reason the System Patches package will only be included by default in the following cases:
- New installation of 26.03.
- Systems upgrading to 26.03 which still have the pfSense-plus package installed.
Note: The pfSense-plus package is used by the Netgate Installer and is not meant to be installed. Some older systems/installations may have the package installed but it can safely be removed.
I know the release notes for 26.03 say "to periodically check for and apply updates to that package" but may I suggest adding that instruction on the actual Patches page? I feel a decent number of people will not read the release notes, or regularly update their packages, and assume there are no new patches. (e.g., a good number of people are still posting about "why does my CE say 2.7.0 is current?")
Thanks for including it.
