I found that using the resolver "domain overrides" configuration resulted in unbound creating a stub-zone in the config. For some reason this still resulted in unbound seeing the result from the remote dns server as "LAME" in the logs and creating a servfail in it's own cache.
When reading the unbound documentation they specifically say to use "forward-zone" if the server you are adding is handling recursion. Using this type of zone via advanced options is working. Perhaps an option could be created in the UI to allow the user to specify if the target DNS is authoritative or not?
