Description

The new installer has a number of useful options but there is no choice that replicates the "Quick/Easy Install" option of previous versions which automated nearly the entire process.

Ideally such an option should reduce the number of choices to a minimum, perhaps only offering a choice of UFS or ZFS and making assumptions from there.

In particular, it should be the first option in the main installer menu, and when selected it should automatically determine values using similar logic to the old installer for most of the choices:

  • Select a target disk
  • Select the default partition layout using the entire target disk
  • Select a partition scheme (e.g. assume GPT/BIOS)
  • Calculate swap size based on RAM size vs available disk space (reducing swap so it doesn't consume most of the disk for smaller disks)
  • Skip post-install "manual configuration" prompt

  • Status changed from Confirmed to Feedback

Added in 2.4.0 installer already. When Auto (UFS) is selected, if there is only one available disk it's automatically picked

The Auto (UFS) behavior with a single drive works well
