Per this topic, enabling watchdogd seems to be harder than it should be: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=102784.0

Please in the future include ichwd and other watchdog drivers, even if users cannot enable this in the GUI. Please leave the watchdogd startup script in pfsense, even if we have to use shellcmd to turn it on.

If possible, add a "watchdog chooser" in the GUI. Enable configuration of the watchdog timer if a /dev/fido is found. (For this one, a bug bounty might be possible)
