System logs->Firewall->Advanced Log Filter - more UI functionality for choosing interfaces
Added by e 1/1 over 4 years ago.
Updated over 4 years ago.
Description
In Status->System Logs->Firewall->Normal View and Dynamic View please improve the "Interface" field in the Advanced Log Filter:
- change it to drop down field (or allow the users to set it by default as drop down instead of the default text box), populated with all interfaces currently on the firewall (if interface count is sufficiently low to not crash or slow down the web page);
- allow users to type in text, then present results matching that input for selection, just as it is currently done in firewall rules, source/destination field for option "single host or alias".
- Category changed from Dashboard to Logging
- Status changed from New to Rejected
- Target version deleted (
2.5.0)
Doing a drop down is not going to scale well and also prevent users from using things like regex in the box to match multiple interfaces.
The second option isn't too viable either as using aliases isn't likely to work as users would expect, and also wouldn't scale well.
The current boxes are geared for flexibility, allowing regex, and speed. It's "advanced" filtering so holding the user's hand with auto-fill and drop-downs aren't necessary.

1. Two fields for interface, one with nice regex, second with drop down? If one is chosen, the other one becomes greyed out.
2. Just gave that alias field as an example, not meant really like aliases. More like what you get from filling out from/to in any online map app that calculates routes. For example, writing "Col" could bring in "Colorado" as an option among many.
Here, writing "dmz" could bring in "VLAN820-DMZ3", "VLAN955-DMZ7" etc. for selection.
3. Disagree with the last part. From having worked with other solutions as well, advanced filtering shouldn't mean more pain to use the GUI.
