Feature #3413
closedCARP interface names in WebGUI
0%
Description
As mentioned on the forum: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,71587.0.html
When you have a lot of CARP interfaces, you get a list in the WebGUI, something like this:
opt3_vip1
opt1_vip2
opt5_vip3
and so on...
Would be nice if you could rename them or give them a display name in the WebGUI that makes more sence. For example: the CARP interface which is used as the default gateway in your guest network, will perhaps get the CARP interface name opt5_vip2. You then rename the display name of that CARP interface to CARP_GW_GUEST.
Places in the WebGUI that I've noticed could use this:
- /carp_status.php
- The dasboard widget for Carp Status
Interface selection for services has already somewhat solved this, by displaying the IP address and description of the CARP interface. This is also an acceptable solution (and perhaps easier to implement?)

- Target version set to 2.2
This is a simple change. I think the best way to address this is under the CARP Interface column, have something like:
WAN - wan_vip5
LAN2 - opt1_vip6
etc. using the friendly interface name in front of the real interface name. But I'm up for other suggestions.

Looks okay to me.
But I wonder, is there a reason to have "opt1_vip6" visible at all in the WebGUI, when you have set a friendly interface name? Is it to differentiate it from regular interfaces?

- Status changed from New to Resolved
This is a bit of a moot point on 2.2 as the names already appear differently and use the configured interface descriptive name.
For eample VHID 18 on LAN appears as "LAN@18"
