Clicking MAC Address in DHCP Leases Sends WOL Packet
Added by Steve Vigneau about 14 years ago.
Updated almost 14 years ago.
Description
When clicking a listed MAC address in the DHCP lease status, a WOL "magic packet" is automatically sent to the given address without prompting or notifying the user that this will occur. This result of this behavior may not be clear to the user. Perhaps this functionality should be moved off into a button at the end of the row which states "wake this client with WOL", or something of that nature.
Additionally, this WOL function appears only for things listed as 'offline', as determined by presence in the ARP table. For consistency I would suggest allowing WOL to always be sent to all clients. This will be useful for debugging, recently-sleeping clients, and devices with static ARP entries.
- Target version set to Future
Adding a confirmation prompt would be sufficient for letting the user know what it does.
- Status changed from New to Feedback
- Target version changed from Future to 2.0
There was already a bit of text that would pop up when you put the cursor over the link. With the addition of the confirmation prompt, there should be sufficient notice of what will happen.
- Status changed from Feedback to Resolved
