Description
The "base system" packages such as RIP and OLSR were originally built in because embedded lacked package support. Now that NanoBSD is used and embedded can have packages, these features should be migrated out of the base system and back into the package repo.
What about LiveCD consumers of such packages?
I seriously doubt if anyone is running any of those on the live CD. Almost no one runs the live CD long term, I've yet to encounter even one in production of the hundreds of different boxes I'm logged into every year.
Currently I know about at least 5 installations using the LiveCD in corporate installations
(+ my own one).
The reason is, that the LiveCD offers all features of an installation and is
- extremely easy to upgrade
- secure (just reboot to restore a compromised system - the whole system is just an xml file)
- uses less power, because there are no moving parts (except for the cpu cooler)
In fact, one of the reasons I advise our customers to use pfSense is that it provides a LiveCD
mode... apart from the other fantastic features and stability.
