Allow filtering packet captures by system-defined protocols
Added by Steve Wheeler 5 months ago.
Updated about 1 month ago.
Plus Target Version:
24.11
Description
The packet capture interface does not allow filtering by protocol 'gre' directly:
Invalid protocol: gre
However that is a valid protocol:
[24.03-RELEASE][admin@m470.stevew.lan]/root: grep GRE /etc/protocols
gre 47 GRE # Generic Routing Encapsulation
You can filter by protocol 47 if required but entering gre should work.
- Subject changed from Allow filtering packet captures by protocol GRE to Allow filtering packet captures by system-defined protocols
- Status changed from New to In Progress

Tested on latest 24.08-DEVELOPMENT (built on Mon Jul 15 6:00:00 UTC 2024)
Drop-down 'Protocol' menu now has only a few options: Ping, IPsec and CARP but protocol name feature is working. So if I type 'Protocol: gre' or 'Protocol: icmp', etc I can run Packet Capture for these protocols.
I would still keep all protocol options in drop-down 'Protocol' menu which we had previously.

It appears the only difference to the dropdown list is the removal of ICMPv4 & ICMPv6 which was replaced with Ping, which filters to IPv4 or IPv6 echo request and reply.
Both seem acceptable to me.
