Bug #16610
closedGUI does not prevent adding a VIP with a blank address
100%
Description
Tested on
25.11-RELEASE (amd64) built on Mon Dec 15 12:04:00 EST 2025 FreeBSD 16.0-CURRENT
It appears saving an VIP with an empty address, of any type, adds an entry to the config, but isn't visible in Firewall > Virtual IPs to be removed. The empty CARP addresses do show up on Status > CARP (failover). The other types can be confirmed to be added by viewing the config history or looking directly at the config file.

- Subject changed from No error checking for blank VIP address to GUI does not prevent adding a VIP with a blank address
Updated by Alhusein Zawi about 1 month ago
The GUI prevents adding a VIP with a blank address and returns an error.
A valid IP address must be specified.
The interface chosen for the VIP has no IPv4 or IPv6 address configured so it cannot be used as a parent for the VIP.
